Sisters of Swing is showing May 19-29, 2022! The story of the Andrews sisters. This musical follows the Andrews sisters from their early days on the road through their rise as recording stars to entertaining American GI’s overseas. Featuring songs such as "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." This show is guaranteed to knock your socks off.
We reached out to actor Matt Edwardsen to find out more about him and his experience working on this fun production!
What’s your favorite number in this production? Why?
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy....because it is so iconic and fun to dance along with the music!
What do you love about working with SART?
The amazing people and the professional atmosphere!
Tell us about your character. What’s your favorite thing about them? What do you love about getting to portray them?
Ummm, there are about 15 characters, so it's very fun finding the distinction of each and develop each of their voices.
How did you get into theatre?
Seeing my first professional production of a show my junior year of high school, Les Miserables at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, which led to majoring in Musical Theater in college.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
Hiking
What about this production are you the most excited about?
Seeing how it moves the audience with the amazing story that is coupled with this beloved music!
What’s your favorite part about performing?
Hearing and feeling the reactions from the audience.
Biography
Matt is happy to be returning to SART for this production! While theatres were closed during the pandemic, he kept the creative juices flowing with a few virtual readings
through Attic Salt and The Magnetic Theatre and since August of last year has performed S'Wonderful at HART as the title role in David: The Faces of Love at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts and as George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at Black Mountain Center for the Arts. While starting off as a theatre and musical theatre performer, much of his professional career was spent in opera across the US and Europe. Other favorite Asheville area performances include Uncle Billy in Miracle at Bedford Falls with SART, Nicky in Avenue Q at ACT, Monty Navarro in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder! at Parkway Playhouse, and Gabe in Dinner with Friends at Attic Salt. He is represented for Film/TV by Screen Artists Talent and looks forward to the continued return to LIVE theatre!!
