Meet Madison Garris! She is joining us for The Hunchback of Notre Dame June 30, 2022 - July 10, 2022!
What is your favorite song in this show and why?
While the entire score is incredibly powerful and moving, the song that deeply touches my heart and brings me to tears every time it is sung is "Heaven's Light." I believe that this beautiful song reveals God's intention for human love and affection. In stark contrast to "Hellfire," the song that follows it, "Heaven's Light" teaches that everyone is worthy of kindness, compassion, and above all, love.
What have you loved so far about working with SART?
That is simple - the people! This has been such a positive experience working with truly nice people who treat each other with respect and kindness. There is a wonderful camaraderie amongst the cast, crew, and production team.
Tell us about your character. What’s your favorite thing about them? What do you love about getting to portray them?
I play Quasimodo's mother, Florika, as well as various characters of the ensemble. My favorite thing about being in this ensemble is being included in all the big musical numbers, especially getting to sing all the high notes!
How did you get into theatre?
When my family moved to western NC when I was 6 years old, I began taking musical theater at MusicWorks! Studio of Performing Arts in Haywood County. By the time I was 8, I was working professionally as the lead youth performer at Carolina Nights Dinner Theater in Maggie Valley. Besides many regional theater and opera credits, I also have several film, commercial, music video, and voiceover credits.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
I am a geek at heart. I am an avid reader, cosplayer, and gamer. Currently, I am a Dungeon Master for an online D&D game as well as a player in a fellow cast member's tabletop game: Mike Yow's Savage Kingdoms.
What about this production are you the most excited about?
I have wanted to do this musical for a long time. The score is beautiful and powerful. The story is heart warming and heart wrenching all at the same time. However, to have the privilege to perform it with this incredibly talented cast is as exciting as it gets!
What’s your favorite part about performing?
I love everything about performing! My happy place is onstage or in front of a camera or microphone. I do not want to simply entertain my audience; I want them to identify with or be moved by my characters. I want to take them along on an emotional journey that elicits either laughter or tears, joy or sadness. Theater is all about making people "feel" something. And, I guarantee this show will do just that!
Do you have any upcoming projects we should check out?
Currently, I am appearing in a PSA commercial for Homeward Bound on WLOS/My 40 as well as voicing "Jocelyn" in Tandon Production's podcast, That Vampire Show, available on Spotify or Apple Podcast. Additionally, I am voicing "Natalie" in the newly released audiobook, A Dream of Darkness, by Cory Kruse available on Audible. Please visit madisongarris.com for continually updated information.
