Meet Karen Covington-Yow! She is joining us for The Hunchback of Notre Dame June 30, 2022 - July 10, 2022!
What is your favorite song in this show and why?
My favorite song is definitely "Out There." It is so beautiful and moving. Audiences are going to love the way our Quasimodos sing/sign this song!
What have you loved so far about working with SART?
I love the people the most. I really enjoy all the folks behind the scenes at SART, as well as the amazingly talented performers I get to work with!
Tell us about your character. What’s your favorite thing about them? What do you love about getting to portray them?
The best thing about this show is I get to portray a multitude of characters, so I can really use my range.
How did you get into theatre?
I have always loved theatre from the time I was a small child, so the first chance I got to perform in school, I jumped right in, and have never looked back! I started with singing, and then moved to acting, directing, and stage managing. It completely consumes my life now!
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
Not to sound like a broken record, but my favorite thing about this area is the amount of theatre and talent, so I am seeing shows when I'm not in them. Otherwise, I love to soak in the fabulous mountain scenery and hang out at the Biltmore Estate.
What about this production are you the most excited about?
I am most excited about performing with a deaf actor and the fact that we are really taking into consideration the overall theatre experience of our deaf audience members. It is a learning process for all of us as we venture into new territory, and I am so thankful to Ethan, Rey, and Richie for leading us on this journey.
What’s your favorite part about performing?
My favorite part of performing is the joy it brings other people. It makes me truly happy to see others respond to what I do on stage.
Do you have any upcoming projects we should check out?
After this show, I will jump behind the scenes as a stage manager for SART's production of "The Wedding Singer," and then I'll be back onstage here again for "A Southern Appalachian Christmas." Hope you'll come out and see those shows as well!
