Take a journey with a disgruntled aging couple revisiting their roots in Southern Appalachia in the new play, Milestones showing at Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre June 9-19, 2022. Each twist and turn in the road leads this couple towards forgiveness and healing. Written by Gale Gooch Alexander, and set in the very mountains Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre calls home. We reached out to Milestones actor Dillon Giles to find out more about him and his experience working on this production.
What is your favorite line in this show and why?
"Let's giddy up!" It just definitely feels like a lighthearted foolish thing my father or myself would say!
What do you love about working with SART?
I love the quick rehearsal process and the inclusivity and care that goes into the casts and the process! Everyone really wants to be there and had a wonderful time.
Tell us about your character. What’s your favorite thing about them? What do you love about getting to portray them?
Jeff is the son of Frank and Sally. He is definitely a take charge type of person who steps up in the moment its needed and I feel that I can connect with that. I love getting to be something different though since when does have a jump to conclusion and rudeness to him that I don't usually get to portray.
How did you get into theatre?
I've been doing theatre since kindergarten but started doing professional theatre about 5 years ago and then the pandemic made me miss out on a couple of years in that time frame so really getting going now and I will be acting full time starting this fall.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
I love to visit breweries and go see live music or theatre shows (when I'm not in one). And I LOVE eating at all the wonderful places around here.
What about this production are you the most excited about?
I'm excited to bring this original show to life. It's always a fun experience starting as the original person to ever portray a character in a show.
What’s your favorite part about performing?
I love the way you can move people and connect with them and I love the rush of live theatre since you never know what can happen!
Do you have any upcoming projects we should check out?
I am going to be playing Robbie Hart in The Wedding Singer here at SART and will be in the Christmas show here as well. Then I will be in The Book of Will and Assassins at HART in Waynesville. I have some other stuff I'm hoping will fall into place but can't announce that yet 😜 You can find me on Facebook or at @dillpicklegiles on Instagram to keep up with all my theatrical and life endeavors!!
